Pro-Arroyo rally in Oro
By Lizanilla J. Amarga

* Text messages call on Cory to 'shut up' in issuing resign call
* Group to summon chapters all over Mindanao for admin rally

AROUND 800 to 1000 members of the Karancho all over Northern Mindanao and even some parts of the Caraga Region will gather in Cagayan de Oro to join the nationwide rally supporting President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Saturday, Karancho national director Joecarnine Gubat said.

Gubat told Sun.Star Friday that their members coming from Cagayan de Oro City, Province of Bukidnon, Iligan City, Marawi City and even Butuan City would assemble at the Provincial Farmhouse 10:00 a.m. Saturday.

He said they would then hold a small symposium that would include a discussion of the political turmoil rocking the country.

"There will be around 800 to 1,000 of us who will attend the symposium and then will then be coming up with a manifesto supporting President Arroyo," he said.

He added that even their regional chairman Fr. Cito Labastilla would be attending with some 200 members from Karancho-Bukidnon.

At around 1:00 p.m., the Karancho group would then be holding a Motorcade for Peace around the city streets.

Gubat explained that they did not exactly plan their activity to coincide with that of the nationwide for pro-GMA rally Saturday.

He said they have been supportive of Arroyo ever since she became the first member of the Karancho.

"Siya ang pinaka-una nga Karancho nga babae. Na-membro siya niadtong 1996 kadtong senador pa siya," he said.

He added that he would have wanted to invite the other pro-GMA groups such as the Kaibigan ni GMA or KGMA led by Candy Darimbang among other groups but that they lacked the time to do so.

Meanwhile, the several text messages are circulating around asking for support to ask Aquino to stop calling for Arroyo's resignation.

One text message reads: "We ask former president Cory with all humility to make the supreme sacrifice by keeping her mouth shut and not be part in sowing division in an already divided nation. Please pass."

"Cory forgot she sat as president not through elections unlike GMA who won elections. Cory went through seven coup attempts and refused to resign. Now what moral right does she have to call for GMA to resign? She cannot even get her daughter to abandon her immoral and scandalous ways!" another text message reads.
