Ellorin: 'Uwat ta ter'
By BenCyrus G. Ellorin

I SUSPECT those people who say that let us observe the "rule of law." I have personal knowledge that the call for the "rule of law" is being pushed by GMA/ Lakas' boys or what we call here as the Mr. Suave boys.

Some organizations are unaware that they are being used by the machinations of GMA's men.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

The call for the "rule of law" is aimed at cushioning the impact of the resign call. I have been approached by one of the GMA boys to issue a statement for the "rule of law." Instead, as reported in Mindanews last July 14, 2005 (http://www.mindanews.com/2005/07/13nws-resign.html), I went public and supported the call for GMA's resignation.

There are some groups like the IBP Northern Mindanao Chapter that were duped into issuing a statement for the "rule of law." Although in my previous columns, I have joined the chorus for GMA resignation.

Traditional politics is dirty. And the strategy of GMA at the height of July 8 was to cushion the impact of the resign call and for her to survive the weekend.

They needed to buy time to re-organize their political machinery, the same machinery that were into special operations during the election.

These people were the once who helped GMA cheat her way to Malacañang in the 2004 elections. Of course, the king Mr. Suave was Mike Arroyo.

The call for the "rule of law" is very hypocritical. What rule of law are they talking about? it is the same hypocrisy with those calling for constitutional processes.

Any student of political science 101 knows that resignation is very well a constitutional option. Not only that, it is the most honorable things for the president to do given the pits she had inserted herself into.

Another despicable call, which judicious Mindanaoans should be ashamed of, is the "Mindanao Republic or GMA" of the local executives.

Their call does not need any decent counter argument. It is simply a result of illogical thinking. How come they have arrived at a GMA or Mindanao Republic thing, when in fact it was GMA who sent Mindanao into the pits of war, into all these mess and so on and so forth.

The problem with GMA prolonging her stay in Malacañang is that the government's resources for basic services will continue to be used for political gains. To be given to those groups and LGUs that are supporting GMA.

No wonder there are a lot of LGUs now becoming lapdogs and are unabashedly becoming apologists of GMA. The same way that most of them turned to GMA's side during the election campaign when the GMA camp's money, both official and unofficial started flowing like the mighty Rio Grande de Mindanao.

For GMA and her handlers now, it is easy as long as they have the money they will just operate just like during the election campaign.

But doing this is very expensive. Anyone who have observed closely how traditional politics operate knows this. It would then be just a question of how long their resources will last or to put it bluntly for how long the coffers of government can sustain the propaganda gimmick of GMA.

GMA did it in the last elections. By the looks of it now, she will continue to do it just save herself in Malacañang.

This is why, another day for GMA in Malacañang is bad for the country. This is why, I am fully convinced that with what is happening now, it is next to impossible for GMA to govern the country.

Let us make a stand now rather than be duped by the "rule of law" calls. Resigning after all is still in consonance with the rule of law. It is the most honorable way to uphold the rule of law.

(Uwat ta ter, is a Cebuano way of saying "You cannot fool us.")
