Combat set Mountain Bike Show, August 16-18 By Lynde Salgados
AS A prelude to the 14th Combat Mountain Bike Competition here on August 20-21, the Cagayan de Oro Mountain Bikers and Trekkers will hold a "Mountain Bike Show" on August 16-18 at SM City.
"Apart from its usual fun, sports, exercise and camaraderie, the three-day activity will also serve as information drive for the proper competition. Bike enthusiasts throughout Region 10 can register and ask the details of the forthcoming event during the Mountain Bike Show," said Combat official Wilson Lu of the Marbert Trading.
The annual spoil of the spokes found its way to the annual city fiesta sports consciousness when it gathered the largest ever number of participants in mountain bike history in the Visayas and Mindanao.
"We normally get an average of 300 to 400 participants. In 2003, the 12th Combat Open dubbed as 'San Mig Light Enduro Challenge' even drew an approximate number of 800 mountain bikers from as far as Laoag city down to Cotabato city," added Renax Lim of Bike Lab.
Around P60,000 in cash prizes plus medals will be up for grabs in the pre-fiesta mountain bike spectacle, which has the exciting yet punishing cross-country and high-demanding downhill categories.
Combat is a non-profit SEC-registered mountain bike club in Cagayan de Oro with about 50 active memberships, half of them riding mountain bikes almost every weekend for pure fun, physical fitness and nature-tripping.
