Kidnap suspects freed By Joey P. Nacalaban
THE three Maranaos arrested, detained and accused with attempted kidnapping before the City Prosecutor's Office have been released.
Two of the suspects were freed while the other suspect was able to post bond for only a minor offense.
Prosecutor Benjamin Tabique, in his two-page resolution dismissed the charges against 21-year-old Ali Ryan Basher and 17-year-old Macor Alepin for insufficient evidence.
Only Deno Tarif was charged with slight illegal detention and managed to post a P60,000 bond for his temporary liberty.
The suspects' lawyer Armand Kho then escorted Basher and Alepin to Cogon police precinct to sign a dismissal order before Cogon police precinct chief Insp. Buenaventura Reyes.
The three were arrested by Cogon personnel last August 27 hours after they received a report that the former were involved in a kidnapping attempt.
Earlier 34-year old nurse Annaliza Uyguangco Deño, who's based in Cebu City told responding policemen the three tried to kidnap her while at Domingo\Velez streets, just meters away from her residence at around 1:45 a.m.
But during a clarificatory hearing conducted by prosecutor Tabique, Deño only pointed to Tarif as the one who punched her in different parts of her body and forced her inside an Isuzu Crosswind with plate number XPP-679.
When she was asked whether she saw the other suspects, she replied in the negative. She said she did not see the driver and its occupants inside the said vehicle.
Deño, who was already sobbing, narrated further that she fought very hard against her attacker until she was able to run away.
With the help of her neighbors and other concerned citizens, Deño went to Cogon police precinct to have the incident recorded.
Responding lawmen composed of PO3 Catalino Peyotas, PO3 Richard Flores, PO2 Pagador Ansari, PO1 Erwin Naelga and PO1 Michael Raido Mercado arrested later the suspects after a briefed chased.
They were able to corner them at Limketkai mall near the Site. The suspects then alighted from the same vehicle identified earlier by the complainant.
At the prosecutor's office policemen also presented a witness, a barangay police in the area. Tabique then conducted initial questioning to the witness and just like Obeño, he told Tabique he only saw Alepin get out of the car and mauled the complainant.
Police are still preparing his affidavit to be endorsed today.
