Oro hosts 6th Mindanao Food Congress By Abigail Chee Kee-Malalis
CAGAYAN de Oro is now in full swing as it holds the 6th Mindanao Food Congress, which will be held on November 23-24 at the Grand Caprice Restaurant in Limketkai Complex this city.
Oro Chamber trustee and chairman of the 6th Mindanao Food Congress Boy Gualberto said "92 percent of the basic foods came from Mindanao and it has big bearings in the development of our country since Mindanao is considered as the 'food basket' of our country."
For his part, Edwin Andot, chairman of Chamber of Agriculture Fisheries and Food Industries of Northern Mindanao Inc. (Caffinormin), claimed: "Crops, grains, fruits, livestock, poultry and aquamarine products of Cagayan de Oro will be showcased in this event. Cagayan de Oro City serves as the gateway in the transfer of raw, semi-processed and processed products in the whole of Mindanao and 80 percent of the products sold in other places came from Region 10 and Cagayan de Oro as well."
Meanwhile, Oro Chamber President Ruben Vegafria said "crisis in politics will not hamper in delivering the thrust and objectives of the Food congress. The congress only aims of promoting our region."
No less than President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Jesus Dureza, Presidential Assistance for Mindanao, and Agriculture Secretary Arthur Panganiban will be the key persons who will grace the event.
Food Congress was responsible for lobbying resolutions in helping local producers deliver their farm products. The roll-on, roll-off (Roro) transport was one of the products of the congress.
The 6th Mindanao Food Congress is a joint partnership of Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Oro Camber), Caffinormin and the Mindanao Business Council.
