Capitol alarmed over bus robbery

THE Provincial Board (PB) of Misamis Oriental voiced alarm at how another RTMI bus was held up at the same dark uphill area in Naawan, Misamis Oriental, saying it is now fast becoming known as the favorite area for either bus heists or dumpsite for murdered corpse.

"There are really several bad incidents that occurred in that place. I think the bus incident last night was the fifth one," PB member Pepito Gambe said Monday.

PB member and committee on peace and order chairman Norris Babiera later also confirmed such reports and that he was personally going to look into the matter.

Philippine National Police (PNP)-Misamis Oriental provincial director Lyndel Desquitado said this is the second RTMI bus that was raided in the same spot in Barangay Maputi, Naawan since he took over the post last year.

He said the ones responsible for the first RTMI hold up in the same area was already apprehended.

But because of how these notorious characters frequent this barangay, Desquitado said the PNP and Naawan Mayor Dennis Roa have already mapped out plans for a police detachment in the area.

"That is why we already crafted a plan especially for that area that we even consulted with Governor Oscar Moreno but the robber got ahead of us this time)," he said.

He added that the infrastructure for the police detachment outpost is going to be funded out of Roa's funds while the PNP will provide some officers to man it.

Meanwhile, the RTMI bus that was held up last Sunday night bore the plate number KVG-587 with body number 1082.

Desquitado told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro that the robbers boarded the RTMI bus at Manticao, Misamis Oriental at around 7:00 evening Sunday.

He said when the bus reached Purok I Maputi, Naawan, Misamis Oriental the four unidentified suspects, one of whom was a minor, took out their weapons including one cal. 45 pistol, one cal. 38 revolver and one hand grenade.

"It was just good that there were not so many passengers and so the robbers took off with only a small amount of money," he said.

Desquitado said in his report that the alleged bagman one minor after collecting some cellphones, jewelries, and undetermined cash amount from the passengers.

This including the cash collection of the conductor amounted to P7,500 more or less.

"Suspect immediately fled to unknown direction," he said.

Desquitado added elements of the Naawan PNP station led by SPO3 Camilo Buhian together with Senior Police Officer 1 Lorenzo Amarga, and police officers Jerry Bundaog, Gamalel Dalmpa and Juvy Cagabcab conducted immediately rushed to the area.

They then conducted a follow-up operation but came out empty handed.

"Pero padayon karon ang among follow up and coordination with other law enforcement agencies for possible identificatin of the suspects," the provincial director said.
