Dalauta, Olasiman in Prisaa chess triumphs
CORPUS Christi's Randolph Dalauta and G'ralz Olasiman lead the charge of top young chessers stamping their class in the just-held 2005 Prisaa chess competition at the Inilog Grill.
Both Dalauta and Olasiman played through undefeated on board one in the secondary and elementary boys' divisions.
Joining them as board two mates in the forthcoming City Dual Meet against the public school representatives are the glass-wearing Mark Alec Balandra of St. Mary's School (SMS) and Roland Laurie of Golden Heritage Polytechnic College.
"Mao pa lang kini (Prisaa tourney) iyang major test kay bag-o pa lang nako gitudlo-an. Linghod pa kaayo pero at least nag-excel dayon siya sa Prisaa," said Balandra's mentor Johnnel Balquin of the Capitol Chess.
Laurie made it to the City Dual Meet after defeating fellow comebacking Raphael Russ Pasimio of SMS in the battle for board 2 title.
The rest of the qualifiers in the two-day chessfest arbitered by Metro Cagayan Chess Club vice president Lorenzo "Jun" Cuizon are Mary Ann Cardenas of Cagayan de Oro Christian School and Abegail Posadas of SPC (elemetnary girls), Mary Grace Baang of Liceo de Cagayan University and Shian Tigulo of Corpus Christi (high school girls), Mateo Paron and Leonard Philip Earl Emano of Liceo (college men) and Mary Grace Jalalon of Pilgrim and Emilyn Medroso of SPC in tertiary women's chess rivalry.
Prisaa athletic director Ted "Pagasparov" Pagaspas said the tertiary regional meet will be held on Dec. 14-16 in Dagupan, while the national Prisaa games will be slated in February next year in Lingayen, Pangasinan. (LLS)
