Pabillore kin to feel homecourt edge By Lynde Salgados
ALREADY in Cebu for the fast-drawing Seag karatedo Meet, Pabillore kin Marna and Joey want a feel of homecourt edge and a grasp of psychological nib they badly needed in their quest to win honors for the country.
The Queen City of the South is the official host of the 2005 South East Asian Games karatedo meet, which is set to kick off at the later part of this month.
"As a host, medyo aduna kitay bentaha kay sayo-sayo nga ma-familiarize sa atong mga atleta (dili lang kay sa karatedo) ang venue sa Seag compared to our rivals from the neighboring Asian countries," said karatedo coach Victoria "Kakay" Pabillore.
Cagayan de Oro's only contribution to RP's bid for Seag glory, the pair of Marna and Joey considers their counterparts from Vietnam and Thailand among the top bets to watch come judgment day.
Meanwhile, young and bubbling Michael -- the latest Pabillore to take up karatedo sport -- has qualified to join the RP Men's Open karatedo championship this coming February in Davao city.
JP Pabillore, his uncle and acting manager, said Michael's chances to enter the elite class of karatekas was boosted by his gold finish in the last Invitational Open tournament in Cebu city.
Standing at 5 foot 3 but with an insatiable taste for hard-nosed training regimen, Michael also fought undefeated in the recently held Prisaa (Private Schools Athletic Association) Meet here representing STI (Systems Technology Institute) where he's currently enrolled.
"Like Marna and Joey, dako sab ang tsansa ni Michael nga makaabot sa Philippine team basta kayod lang pirme and continue to observe strict discipline," JP told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
