Bukidnon guv, autonomous region exec figure in row

BUKIDNON Governor Jose Maria Zubiri filed Wednesday grave threat charges against an official of the Autonomous Region for Muslim in Mindanao (Armm).

The case stemmed from an incident Tuesday evening inside Zax's Music Lounge located at Makahambos-Tiano streets.

The governor was inside the said upscale KTV lounge along with a Cambodian foreign official when a man, later identified by police as a certain Makoy Malawani, approached him for a dance.

An identification card later showed that Malawani is employed as assistant executive secretary of the Armm.

Zubiri said he refused to dance with Malawani and the latter got irritated and pointed a gun at him. The suspect is said to be drunk at the time of the incident.

"I refused specially that he was a man and told him he should ask the ladies instead," Zubiri told dxCC-RMN Network.

The governor said he was worried not for his personal safety but for the State Secretary of Cambodia who was with him.

Zubiri said they were inside the establishment to "treat" the foreign official.

The foreign guest was in Bukidnon to get inputs on his province's successful implementation of various health initiatives to indigent population.

Reports from police said that the suspects, accompanied by two other unidentified persons, immediately whisked themselves from the establishment after the incident.

Police were able to collar the victim inside a night establishment a few hours after he reportedly filed a complaint at the Divisoria police precinct.

Malawani is languishing at Maharlika Detention Center and refused to give police statements regarding the incident. (Annabelle Ricalde)
