Misamis Oriental solon to vote v. anti-terror bill
By Lizanilla J. Amarga

MISAMIS Oriental representative Danilo Lagbas said he would vote against the Anti-Terrorism Bill should its definition still remain too broad.

This as the congressman said despite his hectic schedule he has managed to inaugurate some 14 projects just this month alone.

Lagbas said he has some apprehensions on the passage of the Anti-Terrorism Bill that is now up for another reading at the plenary sometime this month.

He said though he believe that it is "imperative" to have an anti-terror bill considering the recent spate of bombings in the country still, there are several issues and concerns that have to be laid down on the table before he would give it his imprimatur.

The congressman then cited how the pending Anti-Terrorism bill still does not have a clear-cut definition of what constitutes a terrorist.

"And the definition of terrorism should be clearly defined," he said.

Lagbas emphasized the need to be fastidious in coming out with such a law.

"We have to be extra careful that the purpose and intent of this bill should be to curtail barbaric acts and other acts of terrorism which will be embodied in its definition," he said.

"The danger is that the definition is still very broad and it might lead to human rights violations or the curtailment of individual rights," he also added.

Lagbas said the Anti-Terror Bill has already been given the nod in the committee level and that it is now scheduled for another reading at the plenary.

"I will not hesitate to vote against the Anti-Terror bill until the definition is clear-cut," he said.

Meanwhile, the congressman said despite his schedules in Lower House, he has managed to monitor and finally turned-over some 14 projects.

This includes his projects found in Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental that was turned over to Lagonglong Mayor Clint Jude Puertas last Nov. 3.

This include Farm-to-Market roads in Siga-ok, Kauswagan, Farm-to-Market Circumferential Raod in Tabok-Sapong, Farm-to-Market rad in Laon-Laon, Dampil and Water System Installation in Barangay Dampil.

Lagbas last Sunday also passed to Gingoog City Mayor Ruthie Guingona his projects: Farm-to-Market road in Barangay Tinolugan, Farm-to-Market road in Phase 2, Barangay Murallon, Farm-to-Market raod in Barangay 24 and the newly-constructed seawall in Barangay San Juan along with two water systems at Phase I and Phase II of Barangay Tinolungan.

Just last Friday, Lagbas also turned-over Farm-to-Market roads in barangays San Franciso, Balagnan, Camuayan, Calauag all of Balingasag, Misamis Oriental.
