Task force set for Oro 'pahulay'
By Lizanilla J. Amarga

MAYOR Vicente Emano announced that he has already created a task force that would make sure that the three-day transport strike to be staged starting Monday by public utility vehicles (PUV) would not affect city commuters.

The regional office of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 10 chief Mandangan Darimbang said they would be asking PUV operators and drivers to submit an explanation to their office as to the grounds for holding a transport strike.

In a radio interview, Emano said Transportation Federation of Cagayan de Oro (Trafeco) chairman Virgilio Valmoria visited him last Friday to inform him of the planned transport strike.

Because of this, he rushed to create a taskforce led by traffic czar former city councilor and lawyer Ramon Tabor.

The mayor said they have already requested the Rural Transit of Mindanao Inc. (RTMI), Armed Forces' Fourth Infantry Division, and Philippine National Police (PNP) for some "standby vehicles."

"This is to make sure that there would be some vehicles for whoever is left stranded and could not go home," he said.

Emano said all government offices would be going about their normal activities despite the strike but could not be sure as to whether private firms would follow suit.

"Duna gihapoy flag-raising karong Monday," he said.

Emano said he has requested police officers to exercise "maximum tolerance" on these transport group members who would be staging a strike.

He said it the right of the drivers and operators to stage a transport strike but that they should not spread out tire spikes and malign those who are not joining their activity.

Meanwhile, Darimbang said those who would be joining the transport strike this Monday would be made to explain at their office.

"This is for us to know why they are joining the strike. This is the usual procedure," he said adding that the explanation would have to be submitted to LTFRB-Central Office in Manila.

But Valmoria remained unfazed saying this is just one of the nefarious schemes imposed by LTFRB Secrestary Elena Bautista.

He said Bautista could not make franchise holders explain as she even failed to solve the "colorum" problem or the non-registration of some PUVs in Manila.

"Ngano ipa-explain paman nga hibalo naman sila sa issue. Strategy kana ni Bautista. Anyway sa amo grupo tanan man kami," he said.
