Guv dismisses political speculations
By Danilo V. Adorador III

"EARLY politicking can affect public service performance."

Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno might not be giving this unsolicited advice to any particular politician, though observers see this as a reference to Mayor Vicente Emano's recent announcement of a possible comeback to the Capitol.

The Cagayan de Oro mayor early this month told a local radio station that it was his prerogative to seek an elective post in the province where he once served three terms until an election court overturned his win in favor of rival Ruthie Guingona.

Emano, who once served as mayor in his native Tagoloan, one of Misamis Oriental's progressive towns, was responding to reports that Misamis Oriental second district Representative Augusto Baculio Jr. had been recruiting mayors to support his bid for the 2007 Capitol post.

Prior to this, Emano in an interview said he had "no intentions to disturb the political equation in the province."

Emano claimed to have not found any reason to replace Moreno as the latter was "doing good in the province."

But Moreno in a phone interview said he is at the moment concentrating on gubernatorial duties and would not rather comment on what message Emano might have wanted sent to the local political arena.

Moreno, whose Lakas-CMD party had coalesced with Emano's Padayon Pilipino in the last elections, said he did not consider politics part of his agenda.

"I have no plans for now. I would rather set aside politics because it tends to distract performance in civil governance," said Moreno.

Technically, the two politicians are still allies since the coalition was still active.

When pressed for answers on whether he was considering a second term, the governor only said he had "no plans, yet."

Earlier Baculio said he is seriously considering a run for the gubernatorial post of Misamis Oriental even as he added that he is strongly convinced that the 2007 elections would be postponed due to Charter Change. (With reports from LJA)
