Village chair cleared of suertres charges By Danilo V. Adorador III
THE barangay chairman who was a subject of investigation for his alleged involvement in the illegal numbers game suertres has been exonerated of the charges.
Councilor and concurrent Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president Alexander Dacer made this statement following an inquiry they had conducted.
Barangay Gusa chairman Enrico Salcedo was implicated last week to illegal suertres, after being named by an apprehended "usher" as the "general coordinator."
In the gambling underworld jargon, a "general coordinator" occupies the position next to the "financier," who is in charge of collections within a particular large area.
Salcedo's accuser, a certain Jun Cargon--who was arrested by the City Mobile in Barangay Gusa early last week, later recanted when confronted by the barangay official in a live radio broadcast over dxCC RMN.
But Dacer, who is president of the 80-member ABC, said no evidence had been found to support allegations that Salcedo is involved in any form of illegal gambling.
However, the ABC president is set to issue a memorandum to all barangay chairmen against the illegal gambling trade.
The memorandum draft, if approved, would be the first official document to acknowledge the proliferation of the illegal numbers game in the city.
Earlier, Camiguin Governor Pedro Romualdo had complained that most of suertres financiers in his province were from Cagayan de Oro City.
He also identified one Alam Lim as one of these financiers. Lim's house was raided early this month by AIG-SOFT operatives and arrested scores of suertres coordinators and paraphernalia.
In terminating the investigation, Dacer said, that Salcedo's accuser was only "coerced" by police officers to pinpoint the barangay official.
Emano earlier said politics was behind allegations against Salcedo who is aligned to the administration party.
Dacer denied "insinuations" that he terminated the investigation against the barangay official out of party considerations. (With reports from Sun.Star SuperBalita)
