Diving and relaxing your heart out By Abigail Chee Kee-Malalis
IT STARTED in a farm lot with lots of fruit trees, having beautiful landscapes and orchidarium in 1993, nestling along the coastal area of Balingoan in Misamis Oriental.
It is a family run resort located in peaceful Balingoan, Mantangale, Misamis Oriental. The name of the resort came from the town the resort is located--Mantangale, while "Alibuag" is the local word that means "freshwater springs" of which there are a lot of, both above and below the water.
It was in 1995 when the gazebo bar, a kubo hut that accommodate 20 persons and four rooms were added in the resort. But it was yet in 1996 that the resort fully opens its door to the public having six economy rooms, 10 standard rooms and a suite room for their guests.
Only 80 kms from Cagayan De Oro City and facing the Bohol Sea, it has 6 climate that controlled duplex cottages and 2 Executive Suites, which are nestled on 5.5 hectares of lovingly landscaped grounds planted to Lanzones, Coconut and other fruit trees as well as flowering shrubs.
The orchid garden provides the flowers that decorate the rooms and dining tables.
Their Executive suites can accommodate at least four guests and features a living area, two bedrooms and a private deck overlooking the Bohol Sea and Camiguin Island.
The Duplex cottages accommodate two guests and feature a private verandah for early morning coffee or tea.
If you've got energy to burn, choose from a variety of activities--swim, snorkel, scuba-dive, kayak, fish or cross over to Camiguin and enjoy its terrestrial and underwater wonders! They also offer diving lesson giving PADI certification from Open Water to Dive-master Levels.
Feeling lazy? That's okay too! They've got benches and hammocks nestled under the trees for you to read or nap in or work on your tan by the pool.
There's a mini playground and a tree house for the kids as well as a sandy beach and glass bottomed boat for those who love the sea.
Their two restaurants serve both local and international favorites. Guests rave over their Lechon roasted in Cebu Style and a basket of local fruits.
At the end of the day, enjoy the sunset from their Gazebo by the beach as the sky turns Camiguin purple.
The experience I had while on my trip to Camiguin Island with the Department of Tourism staff was worth it all. Thanks to Ms. Lucille Uy-Legaspi for the food and the fresh coconut juice (it was freshly taken from the coconut trees surrounding the resort).
Mantangale Alibuag Dive Resort is indeed a perfect place for unwinding and relaxing from the daily life's humdrum.
