Army officer gunned down inside camp By Lino Dela Cruz Iligan Correspondent
THE Philippine Army's Fourth Division 10th Artillery Battalion commanding officer was killed Saturday night at the back of his headquarters inside Camp Evangelista.
Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Simbajon, 4th ID spokesman, said the incident occurred at 7:15 p.m. last Saturday.
The victim was identified as Lieutenant Colonel Eduardo Castillo Peralta, a native of Guadalupe, Makati City.
A shot was heard and as other army personnel checked, they saw the lifeless body of Peralta laying behind the Artillery Battalion headquarters inside Camp Evangelista in Barangay Patag this city.
The slain commanding officer's body was brought to a local funeral parlor for proper disposition.
Simbajon said Fourth ID chief Major General Cardozo Luna ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
Peralta sustained gunshot wounds one of which landed in his chest, right eye, and left portion of his chest.
The motive behind the murder remains unknown.
Initial investigation showed that Peralta was walking at the time and was supposedly being watched by the suspects.
Carmen police precinct chief Inspector Exudio Vidal said in a radio interview that one of the suspects might be under Peralta but declined to identify the perpetrator pending further inquiry.
Vidal said based on their investigation the suspect held a grudge on Peralta several days prior to the murder. The cause of the grudge had yet to be known.
Two previous shooting deaths among soldiers in the Fourth Infantry Division were also caused by grudges.
