Rudolf in "Mostly Mozart" piano concert

LICEO de Cagayan University celebrates the 250th anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the great composers in Western music, with a concert with annotations at 8 p.m. on March 27, at Rodelsa Hall.

Titled "Mostly Mozart," the concert features pianist Rudolf Pelaez Golez, with Russell Brandon as annotator, providing explanations on the program for the audience's better appreciation of the music.

Congratulations to the graduates of 2006! Post your graduation experiences and greetings here.

Golez is one of our country's highly talented pianists. He began piano studies at the age of four with his mother, Dr. Rafaelita Pelaez-Golez. He studied at the Juilliard School of Music Preparatory Division in New York City under the tutelage of Seymour Lipkin. In 2002, he graduated with a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance at the University of the Philippines College of Music under the tutelage of Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz. He has participated in international piano festivals and master classes. Although based in Cagayan de Oro, where he is Vice President for External and Cultural Affairs at Liceo, he has performed in numerous concerts in Manila, Cebu, Davao, and Dumaguete. Recently, he was named the sole prizewinner at the 1st Asean International Chopin Piano Competition in Kuala Lumpur.

Brandon is a noted musicologist and pianist. His principal teacher was the Chopin Laureate Zbigniew Grzybowski. For 20 years he was Professor of Piano at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He was also Professor of Piano at the University of Wales for 12 years. Since 1995 he has been associated with the main music schools in the Philippines, namely, St. Scholastica's College, University of the Philippines, and the University of Santo Tomas, where he has given numerous Master Classes and Lecture Recitals. He is also a coach of the Clarion Chamber Ensemble and introduces their programs by providing annotations.

The concert repertoire will include Mozart's various sonatas, Chopin's "Scherzo in c # minor op. 39, # 3," and Paganini-Liszt's "Etude in a minor."

While admission to this piano concert is free, donations for Liceo de Cagayan's university scholars and Safer River Life Saver Foundation will be accepted at the theatre foyer.
