Americans, crewmen rescued from Initao
THREE foreigners and a Filipino along with three passengers were rescued by fisherfolks off the waters of Initao town, Misamis Oriental province last Tuesday afternoon.
The three rescued were identified as 39-year-old Pierre Andre, 28-year-old Ali Michelle, and 30-year-old Ian Willis, all American nationals along with 21-year- old tourist guide Rubie Hora of Bohol province.
Based on a spot report of the provincial police office the Americans came from Tawala, Panglao, Bohol and hired the services of Ela Hyuna who owns a passenger pump boat headed for Camiguin province.
The foreigners set off for Camiguin at 11:00 a.m. last March 19. However, the pump boat got damaged and they were forced to ride out the waves until it carried them to Initao town.
Two days passed and fishermen saw the victims and attempted to rescue them.
Provincial police director Lyndel Desquitado said contrary to reports received earlier the foreigners were not kidnapped by bandits.
Desquitado said the foreigners mistook the fisherfolks for bandits when they heard them saying that they are bringing them to Mindanao.
Likewise rescued were fellow passengers 26-year-old Delvin Bonggolto, 20-year- old Kerwin Balungag and 31-year-old Elmer Loreno, all of Bohol.
The Initao police precinct has taken the nationals and passengers along with their boat and items under their custody in the meantime. (Johnny Agustin of Sun.Star SuperBalita)
