ITR deadline extended to April 17
* Authorized agent banks will extend their working hours
THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Region 16 has extended this year's tax-filing deadline to April 17, Monday, since April 15 falls on a Saturday.
"We want to give our taxpayers some consideration in filing their Income Tax Returns (ITR), especially those who may find it a little inconvenient to beat the April 15 deadline because it is a Saturday. So we are allowing them to do it the following Monday, April 17," Atty. Araceli J. Francisco, Regional Director of BIR 16, said.
Francisco, however, was quick to say their campaign for taxpayers to file their ITR before the deadline is to avoid the rush.
The ITR is filed by every resident deriving compensation income from all sources or resident alien and no-resident citizen who receives compensation income from within the country.
As suggested, fixed-income earners will file their ITRs earlier before March 15 while non-fixed earners can do it before April 15, as the latter is designated as the deadline for filing returns covering income of the preceding taxable year.
Meanwhile, Atty. Nenette Epon, Public Information Officer of BIR-16, said the following banks will extend their operations up to 5:00 p.m. daily from April 1-17, except on April 2, 9, 15 and 16, to facilitate the receipt/processing of ITR payments from taxpayers:
Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP): Cagayan de Oro Branch located at Neri-Corrales Sts, CDO, Malaybalay Branch, Bonifacio Rd, Malaybalay City, Ozamiz Branch, Burgos-Zamora Sts., Ozamiz City and Iligan Branch, Mahayahay St., Palao, Iligan City.
Security Bank: CDO Branch located at Osmena St., CDO and Iligan Branch at Quezon -Obach Sts., Iligan City.
ITR can be filed with any Authorized Agent Bank (AAB) of the Revenue District Office where the taxpayer is required or where the taxpayer has his legal residence or place of office in the country.
In places where there are no AAB's, the ITR can be filed with the Revenue Collection Officer or duly Authorized City or Municipal Treasurer.
However, if the taxpayer has no legal residence or place of office in the country, the ITR shall be filed with the Office of the BIR Commissioner or Revenue District Office No. 39, South, Quezon City.
She said ITRs, which are "no-payment returns" at the time of filing, shall be filed directly with the RDO where the taxpayer is required to register or where the taxpayer has his legal residence or office in the country.
The Department of Finance is set to improve tax collections by comparing revenues against industry standards with the help of third party information to check the veracity of tax returns. As such, BIR is tasked to run after tax evaders (RATE) to raise government revenues, Epon said. (Trends)
