By Richel V. Umel

ILIGAN CITY -- The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) said it continues to track down the kidnappers of a Taiwanese trader and his lady companion, said Southern Command Deputy Commander Mohammad Bin Dolorfino.

Dolorfino said the MILF is notifying its ground forces to help in locating the victims of this latest kidnapping with the victims believed being kept in an undisclosed hideout somewhere in Bukidnon.

He denied that the abductors sneaked their victims through military checkpoints using the route to Talakag in Bukidnon, then to Cagayan de Oro City, to Iligan City, and finally to Marawi City.

Reliable sources disclosed that the victims and its abductors are just hiding in Bukidnon.

However, the military said it would not pinpoint the suspected location so as not to jeopardize the operation.

Sources identified the alleged leader of the kidnap gang as Willie Mangandato, also of Bukidnon.

The trader and his companion, Michael Dy, a Taiwanese national and his cashier, Evelyn dela Cruz, were snatched by gunmen at Punong, Wao, Lanao Del Sur on April 5.

They were onboard a van with two other companions when seven armed men flagged down their vehicle and abducted them at gunpoint.

Government investigators were groping in the dark as to the identities of the kidnappers, who until this time have not asked for ransom money from the family of the victims.

Report also said the abductors don't speak any of the Moro languages and one of the victims said the captors were hiding their real identities by speaking the Visayan language.

Dolorfino said troops were conducting search and rescue operations.
