Ex-gov't exec to muster support
By Danilo V. Adorador III

HYATT-Northern Mindanao member Corazon "Dinky" Soliman will be in Cagayan de Oro City Wednesday to muster local support for the impeachment charges now filed in Congress against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and shore up calls against Charter change.

Soliman will lead Black and White Movement member-groups in a rally in the afternoon at the Freedom Kiosk in Divisoria, opposition figure Antonio Soriano said.

She is accompanied by singer Leah Navarro, another staunch Malacañang critic.

Soliman is a former Cabinet member and avid supporter of Arroyo before she joined other Cabinet officials in calling for Arroyo's resignation.

Around 200 participants are expected to attend the rally, Soriano said, adding that the gathering is part of the nationwide caravan dubbed as "Stop Cha-cha, Impeach Gloria."

Now that the citizen-initiated impeachment complaint has been filed, Soriano said the Black and White Movement and its allied organizations are now gathering support from the countryside to bolster the charges.

In these series of rallies, he said, the group will also intensify campaigns against Charter change, which anti-Arroyo forces say was a devise of the administration to perpetuate itself in power and deviate controversial issues on electoral fraud and corruption.

Soriano also defended the serial filing of impeachment complaint against the President, saying the everyday filing of charges was meant to avoid "future technicalities administration supporters in the House may invoke."

The one-year prohibition of filing impeachment case against Arroyo expired on June 24, he said, but opposition groups are wary that administration lawmakers may challenge that date "by using any legal tool at their disposal."

Some legal luminaries in the administration, he said, claims that the one-year prohibition falls on June 25, while others cite July 26.

As of now, there are already five impeachment complaints filed against Arroyo. (With reports from Sunnex)
