Impeach group to plan anew
By Lizanilla J. Amarga

CAGAYANONS Monday vowed to lodge another impeachment complaint against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo next year even as they fear for their safety.

Some of these Cagayanon complainants are now taking "precautionary measures" to ensure their safety in case Arroyo "might target" them just as that of the slaying of militant and opposition groups who have gone against the President.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Opposition congresswoman Dina Abad said Arroyo's administration is not just into "physical killing" but "killing the spirit" of those who refuse to be governed by a dictator just like that of the "Spirit of Ninoy Aquino."

Among the eight impeachment complaint filed against Arroyo, it was only the one that was signed by the Cagayanons that was considered as sufficient in form but was later junked as failing to meet the sufficient-in-substance test.

Meanwhile, Black and White Movement-Cagayan de Oro local convener Antonio Soriano said Cagayanons will still be among those who will be filing impeachment charges against Arroyo next year.

Macabalan barangay kagawad Raul Go, Enraged conveners Batin Ravanera and Bencyrus Ellorin, Pilipina local coordinator Dina Awitan, and some Jesus is Lord (JIL) representatives, echoed Soriano's sentiment.

The group said they will file the impeachment complaint against Arroyo even if it will be labeled as another "Dead on Arrival" or "ukay-ukay" or "chop suey" complaint.

Also, even if it means putting their lives at risk just like those who they believe were killed because of going against Arroyo citing the spate of killings of Bayan Muna and other militant and opposition group members all over the country.

Go who is chairman of Macabalan's barangay committee on good governance said, "Even if I will sacrifice my life for this particularly that our house is an easy target being just along the road."

Ravanera and Ellorin said they have considered how their lives will be endangered once they signed the impeachment complaint against Arroyo and in vowing to do the same next year.

They said they are now taking "precautionary measures" just in case Arroyo's wrath will be upon them for signing the impeachment complaint.

"But if I die because of my signing the impeachment complaint at least I would have made my point that we are indeed right and on the side of truth for them to go to the extent of killing us," she said. "We have nothing to fear but fear itself. If we will be afraid then it means Arroyo has already defeated us."

Several groups both in the domestic and international arena took note of a "pattern" on how Arroyo's detractors have been summarily executed in several areas in the country.

Those who were slain are mostly members of the Bayan group and other outspoken militant leaders, journalists, lawyer and even priests to mention a few.

More than 100 Bayan leaders have already been murdered since Arroyo took over as President. Not one of the cases has actually been solved with the suspect apprehended and serving jail time.

Awitan for her part said, "As long as I know I am standing behind my principles and truth, I have nothing to fear. I have accepted this fact in life."

JIL representatives said they will back the Black and White Movement-Cagayan de Oro even if it means risking their lives saying, "This is not the time to give up."

Abad said Arroyo's administration and her cohorts in Congress are not only into physically killing detractors but worse -- they are killing the Spirit of Ninoy in every Filipino citizen who refuses to bow down to dictatorship.

She said she is convinced that her fellow congressmen know the truth that there was indeed cheating in the last elections just to ensure Arroyo's win, graft and corruption and culpable violation against the Constitution.

"But because elections is fast approaching it is a different truth that they see," Abad said.
