Army's 401st Brigade reinstated to Caraga By Ben Serrano Caraga Correspondent
BUTUAN CITY -- They were pulled out and reinstated so many times before finally being returned last August 18.
The Philippine Army's (Unite and Fight) Brigade, the 401st IB of the 4th Infantry Division sets up camp anew at its original home at Bancasi Camp here to serve Caraga Region.
This developed amid verbal threats of the communist New People's Army (NPA) spokesman for Mindanao George "Ka Oris" Madlos last week of renewed attacks against military and police establishments in the region.
Colonel Luini C. Mirar, 401st Brigade Commander said that effective August 18, 2006, the brigade's area of responsibility of Davao del Norte, Davao City, Laak Compostela Valley province and the municipalities of Loreto, Veruela and Sta. Josefa, all of Agusan del Sur was terminated.
He said these areas were now under the newly activated 1001st Brigade, 10th Infantry Division, Philippine Army with the exception of the towns of Loreto, Veruela and Sta. Josefa, which were turned over to the 402nd Brigade based in New Leyte, Awa, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
Mirar said based on the same operational directive by the Fourth Infantry Division, the 401st IB will assume operational control over the 30th Infantry Battalion based in Bad-as, Placer, Surigao del Norte, the 5th Special Forces Company, 2nd Special Forces Battalion stationed in Dulag, Butuan City.
He said this includes CAA units in various areas of Surigao del Norte and Agusan del Norte previously under the 23rd Cadre Battalion.
Mirar called on support from all sectors in the society in the region, saying they will effectively serve the region in protecting its people.
Philippine National Police Chief Calderon is expected to arrive here August 24 to personally award four policemen who managed to fight off 70 communist rebels who attacked the San Agustin Municipal Police station last week.
Caraga Police Regional Director Chief Antonio Dator Nanas said Calderon will personally award to the four San Agustin policemen the Kagatingan Awards for bravery.
"Despite being outnumbered they were never outfought and valiantly stand to the defense of the police station," Nanas said.
The four will also be given spot promotions by Calderon Thursday.
