Divine Mercy Draw and books of inspiration By Attorney Guerrero A. Adaza My Viewpoints
AUGUST 27, 2006, the eve of the feast of St. Augustine, the Grand Draw of the Divine Mercy Foundation Mindanao Philippines Inc. was held as scheduled.
The major winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes, which are residential lots from 250 sq. meters, 200 sq. meters and 150 sq. meters near the Divine Mercy Hills at Ulaliman, El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, were announced.
So with the winners of the 2 computer sets with printers, 10 cell phones, and 10 P1,000 and P500 cash prizes.
The fortunate winners can secure the prizes at the Divine Mercy Office at the G&P Adaza Building, Hayes-Rizal Streets, during office hours.
The winners must of course present the winning tickets and an I.D. or any document that will identify the person as such.
According to my wife Kits, who is the Executive Director of the Divine Mercy Foundation, the goal of the draw is to get a gross income of 5 million pesos, but only 2.5 million pesos was had from the paid tickets and there are still unpaid for tickets which were not returned on the deadline for its return.
But thanks God the Foundation will be able to pay its creditors probably partially or completely. And the Foundation's credibility is still intact that it never reneges from its commitments.
The Foundation is definitely grateful and thankful to all who worked hard for the success of the Grand Draw, especially its over all chairpersons Miss Lorna Llanos, the Executive Secretary of the Regional Wage and Productivity Board of Region 10 and Mrs. Ligaya Nacalaban, the first woman President of the mixed Rotary Club in our City, meaning its members are men and women, for their tremendous dedication and commitment to the task assigned to them by my wife Kits.
Our profound thanks as well to Mrs. Rose Oclarit, wife of lawyer Chito, who really went out of her way to sell tickets and solicit donors for the statue in the province of Bukidnon.
Several donors from sugar planters from the greenest province of the Republic gave already their partial donations for the completion of the statue. May God bless Rose in all of her undertakings.
My wife's several visits with Rose in Bukidnon together with Naning Tante and Beber Abrogar and meeting with devotees in that area did help a lot in generating interest of the public in the importance of the devotion of the Divine Mercy for our salvation, for it does not only emphasize on prayer, but action, which are the corporal works of mercy which the followers of Jesus should do to their fellow mortals.
* * * * *
During my treatment period of my laryngeal cancer from January 16 to July 22 in the City of Manila, I've read several spiritual books like "God Are you Listening", Escape Routes, the late John Paul II autobiography and the biography as well of Franklin Graham, son of world renowned evangelist Billy Graham, and Simplifying Ones Life and truly I've gained a lot of insights about how to be a real servant of God.
The late John Paul II, the Archbishop of Krakow, Poland before he became Pope and Spiritual Leader of the over a billion Catholics worldwide, even when he was but a plain priest really made his commitment to God earnestly by serving the people with generosity, patience, cheerfulness and humility.
He was generous of his time to the flock that he shepherded. He really went out of his way to know his parishioners. Their aspirations and problems and had a good ear to listen to them patiently and humbly.
All priests should have a copy of this book so that they can effectively lead their people to God. Leadership by example is still the most effective way to let people realize that to worship means to serve Him and the less fortunate of our people.
Simplicity had always been the trademark of the late Pope John Paul the II, in his words and in his deeds.
He showed to all of us that even in sickness and old age one must continue to serve with enthusiasm God and His people.
