Families fight over cop's body

THE family of a recently departed police officer was caught by surprise when the remains were seized and brought inside a waiting ambulance that sped off from Barangay Bulua at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The police officer's 43-year-old wife, Werlie Mae O. Bulo, a resident of Zone-6, Barangay Cugman, reported the incident to the police.

However it was learned that the remains of Zacarias Bulo, an officer assigned at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Office, who passed away on Aug. 25, was taken by the children of Bulo's first wife.

Included in the complaint filed by Werlie were the police officer's brothers, Macrino and Bernardo, as well as the first wife's children, Dick Andrew, Evary Faye and Jasmen.

Also included was City Police Deputy Director Antonio Montalba who headed the operation to commandeer the remains.

According to reports, the remains were brought to the Divine Shepherd Memorial Garden in Barangay Bulua when the vehicle carrying the remains was blocked by an ambulance.

The remains were then taken to the ambulance, which reportedly headed to Maigo, Lanao del Norte.

Bulua police precinct chief, Senior Inspector Hadji Ballangan, said the family of the first wife and the police officer's brothers sought help from the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office.

They later showed documents proving they are the original family of the departed police officer.

Montalba was then ordered by City Police Director Aurelio Trampe to take the remains.

Montalba then presented the marriage contract and birth certificates given by the family to Werlie Mae.

The police are waiting to see if Werlie Mae is interested in pursuing the charges. (Annabelle Ricalde of Sun.Star Superbalita)
