West Diversion Road named Macapagal Drive: Oro execs

FROM now on, the newly inaugurated 8.5 kilometer West Diversion Road connecting Bulua, PN Roa, and Lumbia Airport will be called Macapagal Drive.

The City Council during its recent plenary session presided by Vice Mayor Michelle Tagarda-Spiers unanimously enacted an ordinance for the purpose.

"This is purposed in memory of the past President of the country, President Disodado Macapagal, who has not yet been honored by the city with the naming of any street in the city. All the deceased Presidents have the names of the City streets except President Macapagal," the recommendation of Mayor Vicente Emano to the City Council read in part.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led the inauguration of the newly completed P121.5-million Macapagal Drive on August 28.

Assisting President Arroyo were Mindanao Economic Development Council Undersecretary Virgilio Leyretaña, Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane, Emano and city lone district Representative Constantino Jaraula.

The completion of the 8-k road project now connects the city, Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon and is seen to give significant support to the government's agriculture and food security program in the region in terms of easier transport of farm products to market center; enable agri inputs and services to reach production areas, enhancing the over-all productivity in the area; and bring rural communities into the mainstream of progress.
