Wednesday, October 11, 2006 Maramag at a glance By Abigail Chee Kee-Malalis
MANY tourist destinations in Northern Mindanao have been an attraction to domestic and foreign guests. And almost every year, tourists' attractions have been added to the list... one of these is perfectly located in Maramag, Bukidnon.
The municipality of Maramag is located in the heart of Bukidnon Province. A notable landmark of Maramag is the Musuan Peak at the Central Mindanao University.
In an interview with Maramag Vice Mayor Alice Paulican-Resus, she said Maramag started the tourism development in 1990s. It was blessed with 150 water springs (which is the source of their potable water supply). "We've celebrated our first festival on July 1 of this year, the "Kahalawan te Sebseb" the colorful festival showcasing the abundant spring sources of Maramag," she added. An indigenous music and contemporary dance theatrical presentation depicting the myths, folklores and folktales of the different spring sources and the Sayaw sayaw dun ta dalan (street dancing competition) was held on July 1 during the Araw ng Maramag.
Recently, Maramag has been dubbed as the "Tourism Highway" since it is an equidistant to the cities of Cagayan de Oro (northern reference), Davao City (South-Eastern reference), and General Santos City. Ag Ramag, a Manobo term, perfectly describes it as "let's stop and rest/let's stop and dine" as it is a perfect place for a stopover after a three-hour ride from both Cagayan de Oro and Davao City.
Maramag also pride itself with the wonderful resorts with crystal spring water abundantly flowing, giving you a different sense of relaxation. It also accommodates the Napocor Hydro-Electric Power Plant and Man-made Lake, an ISO accredited hydro power plant operating on a 255-Mega Watt power supplying electricity to the Mindanao grid. Experience boating, rowing, canoeing and kayaking adventure in this man-made lake.
Our country (Mindanao in particular) only proves one thing...that we are greatly blessed with the beauty and bounty of our nature and culture.
