Pacman downs Iligan, fans
ILIGAN CITY -- The MP Warriors-GenSan survived atrocious free throw shooting down the stretch to outlast the Iligan Archangels, 75-73, and improved its playoff position at the ML Kwarta Padala Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) Second Conference Wednesday night at the MSU-IIT Gym.
After Archangel Dino Cabili deadlocked the score for the last time at 72-72 with three minutes to play, Warriors Rolly Menor, Medalla and Weng Farochilen were sent to the foul line one after the other only to have all three come up with splits for a 75-72 tally.
Sammy Ayodelle then closed the gap and settled the final tally with a free throw split of his own at the 35-second mark, 73.
Cabili then intercepted the Warriors' outlet pass and rushed down the court but his potential game-winning triple at the buzzer bounced off the rim.
Medalla, Farochillen and Apol Coronado paced the winning Warriors of Manny Pacquiao and Coach Ramon Pido with 12 points each and raise their win-loss card to 4-2.
The Archangels of Mayor Lawrence L. Cruz and Coach Ed Arugay were led by Cabili with 27 points and new recruit Francis Sanz with 11 but it was not enough as they fell to 2-4 in the league supported by ML Kwarta Padala, Nature's Spring Drinking Water, Reva Sandals, Gameface.Ph and Nike Basketball.
The Mindanao Division teams will now travel to play the Visayas Division teams and vice versa as the classification round hits a higher gear next week.
The playoffs will begin by the first week of December with the Division Semifinals.
The Talisay Aquastars (2-2) of Coach Eddie Ybanez and Cebu Landmaster-Mantawi (2-2) of Joe Soberano and Coach Jun Tan were dueling at press time last night at the Talisay City Sports Complex.
