AROUND P5.214 billion have been spent by the government for a total of 4,769 projects under Northern Mindanao's infrastructure program over a period of four years, from 2002-2005.
"This is the government's way of making sure that each Filipino benefits from the country's economic growth, i.e., pump priming in the countryside through massive infrastructure in line with the super regions scheme," said Director Sinaolan Macarambon of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Northern Mindanao.
The infrastructure summary of the region, she said, shows the following yearly expenditure: P1.779 billion for 2002, P1.326 billion for 2003, P1.429 billion for 2004, and P679.775 million for 2005.
Of the region's programmed projects, 4,070 were completed, 303 are ongoing, 393 have not yet started and three others have been suspended.
Those completed amounted to P4.163 billion, while those ongoing amounted to P5654.453 million, those not yet started, P485.339M and those suspended, P1.825 million.
Macarambon said there were 1,642 programmed projects for 2002, of which 1,640 projects amounting to P1.750 billion have been completed while two others amounting to P29.233 are still ongoing.
The following year, 2003, the programmed projects totaled 1,415, of which 1,408 projects amounting to P1.320 billion have been completed while seven others amounting to P6.065M are also ongoing.
Again, the programmed projects for 2004 totaled 1,304, of which 939 projects amounting to P1.004 billion were completed while 215 amounting to P293.323 million are ongoing and two others amounting to P825 million have been suspended.
Last year, 2005, out of the 408 programmed projects, about 83 projects amounting to P88.864 million were completed while 79 others amounting to P235.832 million are ongoing, 245 projects amounting to P354.078 million have not been started and one project amounting to P1 million has been suspended.
The overall percentage of accomplishment for the four-year period is recorded at 85.29 percent for actual and 83.54 percent for the revised programs with a slippage of 1.75 percent.
"The positive accomplishment of the DPWH, which implemented the infrastructure program speaks well of the initiative, dedication and perseverance of all the people behind the projects," Macarambon said.
"I hope the year 2006 would bring about more positive results with the continued drive and positive attitude towards work of the DPWH-10 personnel," she added. (Trends)
