Local opposition groups and some businessmen have secretly gathered and conducted meetings as well as consultations this week but requested that everything be made off the record for the moment. They plan to conduct more next week.

Meanwhile, more local lawyers Saturday declared their plans to run for a public position next year.

Former City Fiscal Casiano Gamotin confirmed to Sun.Star Friday plans to run for a seat at the City Council.

"That is true but I still have no party though my preference is that of Mayor Vicente Emano's PaDayon Pilipino," his message reads.

Gamotin is currently doing several cases with Emano's private lawyer Guerrero Adaza, who also doubles as a columnist of this paper.

High-profile lawyers Noel Vedad and Ike Naduma are also reported running for a seat at the City Council.

Traffic czar Ramon Tabor and former city vice mayor Henry Bacal is also checking out the political scenario for plans to run for a post at City Hall.

Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP-MisOr-CDO) former chapter president Manuel Ravanera has voiced plans to run for election next year but is still deciding on whether it would be for city councilor or for a congressional post.

This considering reports that Cagayan de Oro city is to be divided into two congressional districts.

Incumbent Barangay Bugo chairman Perseverando Araña has also earlier confided his plans to run for a seat at the City Council but that he is still looking into some factors before fully deciding on this matter.

Former city councilor Roy Raagas is also reportedly set to make a comeback for a post at the City Council.

Misamis Oriental former provincial board members Oscar Musni and Cromwell Generalao want to make a comeback and grab a seat at the Provincial Board of Misamis Oriental.

Musni earlier said, "I am seriously considering plans to run again at the Provincial Capitol."

Meanwhile, Socialist United Local Opposition Groups and local businessmen are conducting several meetings and consultations but requested everything to be "off the record" for the time being.

"We will make everything known to the public in due time," said Sulog convener Frederico Gapuz.

Sulog member Jerry Orcullo for his part said they will soon be completing the united opposition's slate for City Hall.
