LANUZA, Surigao del Sur -- More and more foreigners are coming to Surigao del Sur after discovering the sandy beach break of Lanuza Bay.
With the influx of tourists especially foreigners, 1st district of Surigao del Sur Congressman Prospero Pichay Jr. vowed to put more facilities in the district especially in Lanuza.
Pichay said that since the figure of tourists' visit doubled compared to last year, upgrading of facilities will be done for the next months in preparation of the next surfing festival next year.
Pichay who also chairs the Philippine Surfing Federation (PSF) said that he will give P3 million for the extension of the present Prospero Pichay Sr. Boulevard facing the surfing site, then a boardwalk will rise from the boulevard to Doot Poktoy sand bar.
The congressman added that Lanuza is the paradise of Surigaonons where he urged them to take good care of their town.
Surigao del Sur Governor Vicente Pimentel Jr. also vowed to prioritize the concreting of road from Lanuza to Barobo, which has been long forgotten.
He added that Lanuza is one of the surfing paradise in the world and that the festival increases tourism in the province.
Lanuza Mayor Gerry Irizarri thanked the town folks who showed hospitality to the 311 foreign and local surfers during the recently held festival, since Lanuza has no resort or hotels for tourists' accommodation.
Department of Tourism-13 regional director Letecia dela Cruz Tan expressed her gratitude to the local government of Lanuza in creating waves for tourism in Caraga region since it serves as the model of other towns in the Caraga province.
In another development, high technology bamboo boards is an amazing product being produced in Lanuza by a former Australian shaper Richard Mathews, which has set up production in the town and the incredible quality boards were put to test by four of the world's best longboard surfers.
