Thursday, March 01, 2007 Women inmates to benefit from GA-Wings 10 Alay Lakad
IN THIS year's celebration of Women's Month, the Gender Advocates and Women in Government Service in Region 10 (GA-Wings 10) will hold an "Alay Lakad" during the event's opening day on March 2.
Gwen Georgette U. Solon, GA-Wings 10 president, said the Alay Lakad is intended for the women inmates at Lumbia Jail.
The month-long celebration will be officially opened with a 7:00 a.m. mass at St. Augustine Cathedral followed by an opening program at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Capitol Kiosk which will be highlighted by a discussion on Republic Act (RA) 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.
Meanwhile, badminton and table tennis tournaments, among representatives of government agencies, will be held at the Philippine Army's 4th Infantry Division (4ID), Camp Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro City on March 21 to 23. Solon said that the tournaments will help finance the association's various outreach projects.
With this year's theme, "CEDAW ng Bayan: Kabuhayan ng Kababaihan," Solon said that the Cagayan de Oro Women Development Council (CWDC) will be showcasing women's livelihood at the City Tourism Hall and City Hall Quadrangle from March 6 to 8.
Other activities spearheaded by the CWDC include photo exhibits and free services such as blood pressure checkup, counseling and legal services. Talents from the barangays of the city will be showcased during the March 8 closing program.
On the March 29 culmination program at SM City, a variety show will feature the awarding of Outstanding Gender-Responsive Agency as well as the winners of the badminton and table tennis tournaments. (Trends)
