Wednesday, March 21, 2007 Fare hike tops regional summit
FARE reduction and other pressing transport issues will be discussed in Wednesday's regional transport summit, the head of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Northern Mindanao said.
LTFRB Chairman Thompson Lantion will grace the event, which will take place at Pryce Plaza, said LTFRB Regional Director Mandangan Darimbang.
Darimbang said the summit was expected to gather around 100 transport stakeholders in Northern Mindanao, in a forum where all issues surrounding the public transport industry will directly be addressed by Lantion himself.
It will also be a venue for LTFRB to explain its regulatory powers to transport entities, including the agency's accomplishments, he said.
Last year, Darimbang said LTFRB-Northern Mindanao garnered awards and accolades having topped nationwide in terms of performance and punctuality in submitting organizational reports.
The year 2006 also saw an increase of the agency's income by as much as 127 percent, or P39,400,793 from the P19,171,444 in 2005.
It also processed 37,624 petitions and applications last year, of which 36,176 were acted.
Lantion was expected to receive the petitions for fare reduction from transport groups in the region, after LTFRB last year approved the provisional 50-centavo fare reduction in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Regions III and IV. (DVAIII and JPN)
