DTI N. Mindanao records P23-B investments

A TOTAL of P23.778 billion of investments have been monitored by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Northern Mindanao, last year.

DTI Regional Director Alicia V. Euseña said the bulk of these investments was noted in Misamis Oriental with P15.992 billion posting a 67 percent share in the total DTI-monitored investments of the region for the year.

This was followed by Bukidnon with P5.08 billion or 21percent, Lanao del Norte with P1.671 billion, Misamis Occidental with P586 million or 4.0 percent and Camiguin with P176 million or 0.7 percent.

Specifically during the 4th quarter of last year, the DTI-monitored investments amounted to P2.242 billion with Lanao del Norte getting the bulk of the investments during the period that amounted to P624 million or 28 percent of the regional total.

Bukidnon came next with P601 million or 27 percent, Misamis Oriental with P577 million, Misamis Occidental with P371 million or 16 percent and Camiguin with P68 million or three percent.

While the DTI-monitored investments were mostly on single proprietorship, those registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) were mostly on corporations and partnerships.

Paid-up capital investments of P78.42 million have been registered with SEC, also last year.

"These investments have been generated from a total of 208 newly registered firms amounting to P66.727 million and from six others that underwent business expansions worth P11.693 million," Regional Director Myra V. Balandra of the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda), Northern Mindanao, said.

On a provincial note, the highest SEC-registered investment was in Misamis Oriental amounting to P53.231 million, followed by Lanao del Norte, P8.97 million, Misamis Occidental, P8.821 million and Bukidnon, P7.397 million.

Incidentally, no new investments and no business expansions in Camiguin were registered with the SEC for the period.

Again, the bulk of the new SEC-registered investments was highest in Misamis Oriental with 163 firms amounting to P42.475 million, followed by Lanao del Norte with 22 firms worth P8.33 million, Bukidnon with 18 firms worth P7.397 million and Misamis Occidental with five (5) firms worth P8.821 million.

Similary, the business expansions of five firms in Misamis Oriental amounted to P1.755 million while that of one firm in Lanao del Norte was worth P937,500.

Particularly during the last quarter of 2006, a paid-up capital of P20.478 million, all for 51 new investments was registered by the SEC in the region, Balandra also said.

The bulk of these last quarter investments was in Misamis Oriental with 40 firms worth P6.549 million, followed by Lanao del Norte with seven firms worth P4.879 million, Bukidnon with three firms worth Php1.0 million and Misamis Occidental with one firm worth P8.0 million.
