Wednesday, May 30, 2007 Open doors for Oro, Jaraula urges traders
MAYOR-elect Constantino Jaraula called on local businessmen who attended the General Membership Meeting of the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc. (Oro chamber) last week to do more for the city.
In his keynote address, Jaraula said local businessmen should start doing things "which have never been tried before" if this will help boost the city's economy.
He said local businessmen may think of financing projects like a toll pedestrian bridge that will allow people to take a leisurely walk from Corrales Avenue all the way to Carmen passing through the Cagayan de Oro River.
Jaraula explained that these projects will provide an added attraction to the city's viability as a preferred tourism destination in the country.
He said it will also open an opportunity for economic activity for local residents who may engage in selling souvenir items along the pedestrian bridge.
Jaraula also told local businessmen that his role as the city's chief executive starting July, this year will mainly be an "interior decoration" of a city, which amenities and major infrastructure facilities are already established by outgoing Mayor Vicente Emano.
Along this line, Jaraula called on the local businessmen to continue supporting the programs and thrusts of the City Government especially along tourism and investment promotion.
"I need your support in managing a metropolis like Cagayan de Oro because this task cannot be done by one person alone," Jaraula said. (CIO)
