Thursday, June 07, 2007 Capitol cites role in veggie congress
THE Provincial Government Wednesday called on stakeholders in Northern Mindanao's vegetable industry to work hand in hand with local government units (LGUs) in order to propel the field to greater exposure in the global community.
Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno in a speech said he remains optimistic that things are looking bright for the vegetable industry in Northern Mindanao.
The two-day activity, which ends Thursday, carried the theme "Promising Innovations Towards a Competitive Northern Mindanao Vegetable Industry."
National Government officials from agencies such as the Department of Agriculture called on Northern Mindanao stakeholders to coordinate efforts with their offices to boost their exports in other countries.
Moreno said during his watch as legislator of the 1st District of Misamis Oriental, he supported the vegetable sector through the implementation of farm-to-market road projects and other forms of assistance to farmers in certain areas.
As governor of the province, Moreno said he further initiated programs that are geared towards the development of the agriculture sector.
The governor is expected to outline his achievements in the agriculture sector in his upcoming State of the Province Address at the end of this month.
