Thursday, June 28, 2007 Adaza: CA corruption and Gore's integrity By Atty. Guerrero A. Adaza My Viewpoints
THE expose made by Congressman Herminio Teves of Negros Oriental against corrupt practices of some of congressmen members of the Commission on Appointments in Congress is now corroborated by former secretary of the Department of Agriculture Domingo Panganiban.
Clearly this belies the claim of Congressman Prospero Pichay of Surigao del Sur, head of the House Contingent to the Commission of Appointments, that there is no such corruption that took place.
To my mind both outgoing Congressman Teves and former Department of Agriculture Secretary Panganiban are trustworthy personalities, even more credible than Congressman Pichay.
But Teves and Panganiban should identify these corrupt congressmen to be fair to the general membership of Congress.
The House of Representative's image is tattered. It should try to salvage by the imposition of sanction upon these shameless congressmen. That's why the prefix Honorable to the name of a congressman can only be appended to for just a few congressmen.
The remaining decent members of the House of Representatives must initiate a definite step to have the Speaker of the House Jose de Venecia decisively order an investigation the soonest possible time, so that the House may still be relevant.
It is the House that should really be abolished not the Senate.

The Supreme Court has finally flexed its muscle to help out rein in the killings of journalist and militants. It was decided to call for a summit from all sectors to give out their thoughts on how to stop the senseless killings.
If at all the three retired generals claim that it has become an unwritten policy of the army to eliminate leftists and activists, then the three should come out in the open and participate in the summit and reveal facts that surely would help out the government to stamp out these murders.
Chief Justice Reynato Puno is a Methodist and a highly placed Mason in the country, his courageous act merits the support and applause of the people.
For if this step would not have been thought of by the Chief Justice then the rule of law will simply become extinct and the law of the jungle to prevail.
Our country is not hopeless, for at least decent elements still exist who are unafraid to uncover the real culprits.
The lawyers must give all out support to Chief Justice Puno's call for action. The national IBP leadership has not been bold enough to trail blaze for what is good for the country.

Climate change or global warming is now being discussed by the world leaders seriously. It is so, for it affects adversely the whole world.
The G-8 summit though it has not come up with specifics at least had it agendaed in one of their sessions. Many thanks to Al Gore, global warming is now given attention worldwide. The former Vice President of the United States, won the popular vote but lost in the electoral college vote in the past presidential election of the United States, where he lost to Texas Governor W. Bush.
Al Gore despite the questionable result of the election count in Florida, U.S.A., where Bush's young brother Jed is the Governor did not go to the U.S. Supreme Court anymore to protest the supposed fraudulent count, for he did not want his fellow Americans to lose faith in their electoral system. A rare breed of American leader.

The electorate of El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, where the Divine Mercy Hills is located had a plebiscite Wednesday to determine whether they want its town to become a City.
I thought that Balingasag and Tagoloan towns will be the applicants for Cityhood before the municipality of El Salvador.
But outgoing Congressman Jun Baculio, who is from the town, filed a bill that become into law for his town to become a city.
After the passage of the law, a plebiscite must be had for the people to decide whether it should convert their town to a City. At the time I wrote my column, the result of the plebiscite is still not known.
