Thursday, June 28, 2007 Editorial: That Bukidnon raid
THE assault by the communist New People's Army on a police precinct in some Bukidnon town in which they carried out several firearms isn't exactly news as it had long been considered a strategy by the hapless Left to exploit the chinks in the armor of government by hitting lowly-defended targets.
What is news, though it may not be to some, is how extensive the support is being sought out by the Left in targeting not only the Philippines but other countries as well, such as those in the US by the leftists in Hollywood who make films that score on the weaknesses of capitalist democratic governments all in the guise of being anti-establishment.
One talks about the recent Michael Moore film "Sicko" in which he harangued about the turnover of the US federal government to the private sector all with miserable results.
But while he did raise a valid point, Moore's leftist tendencies were exposed out in the open with his advocacy of the Cuban medical system and his obvious adoration of Karl Marx in some of the film's scenes.
While he continues to insist that he is not advocating communism, the fact that he advertised himself and implied his endorsement of the Cuban medical system tells otherwise. And while other countries have abandoned communism, still others combined communism with tempered capitalism to become success stories as in the case of China.
So what is the connection between this obvious trend of lefties in the US, which had been in existence long before and the raid in that Bukidnon town police precinct? Well, while the leftist groups court international support the armed communist rebels continue to kill police officers even if they only target the armory as part of their so-called offensives.
And while these legal leftists turn a blind eye on the number of people killed by the communist NPA rebels, they rush to defend those they suspect of being tortured by the military without acknowledging or even verifying if these people truly work for the armed communist rebels as civilian agents or aides.
All this time, they strengthen their ties elsewhere especially with liberal leftist groups in an effort to embarrass the national government as part of their agenda to topple it down.
But thanks to increased security, this little Bukidnon episode won't dent the resolve of freedom-loving Filipinos to repel any form of attacks by communists, raids or otherwise.
