"Actually, aprobado na sa tanan nilang kagawad ang gi-submit nga proposal. Si Jun Daba na lang ang gi-agad kay siya ang authority sa final nga approval," said arbiter Jokorn Maestrado referring to the successor of Carmen chair and Congressman-elect Rolando "Clarex" Uy of the first district of Cagayan de Oro.
Local chess organizers expressed optimism, however, that the youthful Daba has a soft heart for the conduct of sporting event in his barangay being a sportsman himself notably identified in basketball.
"Atong bisitahan si JunDab's nga Kapitan na karon sa Carmen kay mahiligon kaayo kini siya sa sports," the MCCC officials said in unison.
If plans will not miscarry, the Carmen chessfest is expected to surpass the number of teams that participated in the highly successful Bugo chess team tourney early this month.
"Bibo kaayo ni kay karon lang busy na sa hinublotay og players ang kadaghanan nga gusto mag team," Maestrado told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
Carmen resident Johnnel Balquin bannered the powerhouse Goldcrest team, which bagged the Bugo chess team championship.
"Kon ma-aprob, puwersado ta nga modepensa sa atong barangay (Carmen) with or without support," joked Balquin, arguably the strongest chess player in the city today.
