Tuesday, July 17, 2007 Picpa celebrates Accountancy Week
THE members of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Cagayan de Oro - Misamis Oriental Chapter join their fellow CPAs nationwide in celebrating the Accountancy Week this July 14 to 21, 2007.
This annual activity provides the accountants a respite from the demands of their profession as they renew ties of friendship with colleagues and forge new ones, especially with those of the new board passers.
This is also an opportune time to cultivate and mold upcoming CPAs through the organization of accountancy students, the citywide Confederation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (CCJPIA).
The week starts with a mock board examination participated by top accountancy students from the different colleges and universities of the city. This grueling 4-hour examination will be held in the morning of July 14 at the Cagayan de Oro College auditorium. This will serve as elimination round for the Search for the Most Outstanding Accountancy Student. At least 25 privileged students will make it to the search, which will be held at the Event Center of SM City on July 19.
The grand winner will receive among other prizes a full scholarship to the Xavier University Accountancy and Review Center.
Other programs that the members look forward to are the games and sportsfest that follow after the Eucharistic celebration and motorcade. The sportsfest on July 15 will be held at the Xavier University High School covered courts at Pueblo de Oro.
This year will see accountants running out of breath in sports like volleyball, badminton and ping-pong. This year will see accountants running like children in games like patintero and sack race. This year will see accountants use their analytical skills and team play in a game like the amazing race.
Accountants, though, are also sensitive to the needs of the community. In its endeavor to be government's partner in nation building, it has come up with projects that aim to help assuage the plight of the less fortunate and provide a clean and green environment.
On July 17, the Alternative Learning Center at Mother Ignacia Community (Basurahan) in Upper Dagong, Carmen, which PICPA CDO-Misamis Oriental has helped in the past years by building a classroom for the 50 students ranging from ages 5-10, will again be at the forefront as it prepares a place for its first mini-library.
The Balik-eskwela and Book Drive project of the Association of CPAs in Public Practice (ACPAPP) has drawn a lot of PICPAns in donating reference, school and activity books to make learning for these youngsters easier and more fun.
The weeklong blood donation, which will be sponsored by the CPAs in the government sector-the Government Association of CPAs (GACPA), will be the partners of Red Cross and the Blood Bank in calling all PICPAns and JPIAns to donate blood. This formal program will be held on July 18.
PICPA also aligned itself with Gawad Kalinga by aiming to build at least 4 houses by October this year. October is significant as by then, the chapter will be celebrating its 40 years of existence. The clarion call, 1 house for every decade, was officially declared during the chapter's induction last July 6. During the weeklong celebration, the call will continue as it undertakes a fund drive to make this dream a reality.
On July 20, the members of the Commerce and Industry Sector (ACPACI which stands for Association of CPAs IN Commerce and Industry) partners with STEAG by planting and growing trees at the Mapawa Reservation Park.
The whole week activity will be capped with the JPIA and Culmination Night on July 20 at Liceo de Cagayan University's Civic Center. This will be a night to remember especially for the JPIAns who prepared a grand program for three major competitions: The Search for the Mr. & Ms. JPIA; the Popdance Competition; and the Acoustic Competition.
All the programs of the chapter are in consonance with the call of National President Andres R. Cabuyadao for the four sectors of the Institute to integrate and synergize, and meet head on the new challenges of the CPAs brought about by globalization. With the programs set by PICPA Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Chapter, the officers headed by President Carmen Ku, know that it has accomplished and responded to the call most successfully.
