Normin produces 19-T grads in '06

NORTHERN Mindanao has turned in to the labor force a total of 19,049 college graduates during the academic year 2006.

This is based on data retrieved from 77 high education institutions (HEI) of which 61 are private and 16 are public, Eloisa W. Paderanga, Ph.D. Regional Director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), region 10, said.

Compared to the 19,243 graduates in 2005, however, last year's figures went down by 194 or -1.0 percent with the biggest decrease noted in the Agricultural, Forestry, Fisheries and Veterinary Medicine (AFFVM) of only 662 from 1,070 or -61.8 percent posting a 3.5 percent share in the regional total of graduates (RTG).

This was, however, compensated by the Medical Allied Programs which posted the biggest increase of 1,042, i.e., from 4,128 to 5,170 or 25.2 percent, likewise, representing the biggest share of 27.1 percent in the RTG, Paderanga added.

By area of discipline, the other graduates and their percentage in the RTG are: Education and Teacher Training, 3,649 or 19.2 percent, Business Administration and related program, 3,361 or 17.6 percent and Engineering and Technology, 2,295 or 12 percent.

Information Technology (IT)-related courses, 1,039 or 5.5 percent, Other disciplines, 574 or 3.0 percent, Social and Behavioral Science, 506 or 2.7 percent, Natural Sciences, 364 or 1.9 percent, Maritime, 342 or 1.8 percent and Humanities, 327 or 1.7 percent.

General courses, 250 or 1.3 percent, Mathematics, 130 or 0.7 percent, Law and Jurisprudence, 127 or 0.3 pewrcent, Mass Communication and Documentation, 83 or 0.4 percent, and Religion and Theology, 57 or 0.3 percent.

Architectural or Town Planning, 46 or 0.2 percent, Service Trades, 43 or 0.2 percent, Home Economics, 21 or 0.1 percent, Trade, Craft and Industrial Arts, 2 or 0.0 percent and Fine and Applied Arts, 1, also 0.0 percent.

In terms of geographical location, the most graduates of 6,699 or 35.17 percent were in Cagayan de Oro City, followed by Iligan City, 4,465 or 23.44 percent, Bukidnon, 3,128 or 16.42 percent and Ozamiz City, 2,194 or 11.52 percent.

Lanao del Norte, 613 or 3.22 percent, Misamis Oriental, 586 or 3.09 percent, Misamis Occidental, 436 or 2.29 percent, Camiguin, 411 or 2.16 percent, Tangub City, 373 or 1.96 percent and Gingoog City, 141 or 0.74 percent.
