Oro rafters rank 25th in globe tilt

Team manager Chisum Christopher Factura revealed this when the team paid a call on City Mayor Constantino Jaraula last week -- days after their arrival from the week-long competition.

He said Team Philippines competed against 27 other teams from countries all over the world that are also famous as white water rafting destinations. The competition has three technical events: sprint, slalom and downriver.

The team Philippines finished 26th in the sprint while in slalom they ended 21st and landed 26th place in downriver.

Factura said even as the local team only figured in the 25th place in the over-all ranking, it is already a good performance for first timers like them.

The team is composed of the local guides of Kagay Journeys and Cagayan de Oro White Water Rafting Adventure namely Romualdo Cagampang, Melchor Cagas, Garryboy Aba, Ismael Lopez, Allan Calamba and Rommel Cagampang all of Mambuaya, this city.

The competition served as an inspiration for the team to practice more even as they can now be considered world experts on paddling after having paddled in foreign rivers.

For his part Mayor Jaraula said he is proud of the rafting team and assured them of his support for the further development of rafting in the city by improving its facilities like road concreting in the jump-off point, among others. (CIO)
