Xavier announces schedules for 2007 homecoming

THE Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan Alumni Association (XU-AAA) announced the schedule for the 2007 Grand Alumni Homecoming on August 17, & 19, 2007.

The annual affair will start with a Kapihan on the Aug. 17 at 7:30 in the morning with Mayor Tinnex Jaraula, Congressman Rufus Rodriguez and Cong. Rolando Uy at the Country Village Hotel. Mayor Jaraula, Congressmen Rodriguez and Uy are expected to discuss their joint plans and programs for the progress of the city and how they can extend help.

This will be the first forum that the three newly elected officials will meet Mayor Jaraula who ran as the official candidate of the Padayon Pilipino-Lakas CMD-Team Unity, Rodriguez with the Puersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) of the Genuine Opposition, while Uy as an independent.

In the afternoon, the sportsfest will start. It will include Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess and Golf. Except for Golf, which will played at the Camp Evangelista Golf Club, all the games will be played at the XU Covered Court.

Mass will be celebrated at the XU Chapel at 5:30 in the evening which will be followed by the Alumni Night with Former Ambassador Raul Ch. Rabe as Guest of Honor and Speaker. Ambassador Rabe is a member of HS Class '56, last year's Golden Jubilarians. His last tour of duty was as Philippine Ambassador to the US.

Rabe has assisted the administration of Mayor Vicente Emano in bringing investors to the city. He is expected to speak about the business prospects in the city in the next few years.

On August 18, breakfast will be at VIP Hotel with Senator Gringo Honasan as Guest Speaker. The newly elected senator is expected to discuss his programs and plans in the senate.

It will then be followed by a business meeting which will include the election of officers and the plans for the Golden Jubilee celebration of the school.

In the afternoon of the same date, will be the continuation of sportsfest and at 5:30 PM Mass will be celebrated by the University President, Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin, S.J. at the University Chapel.

The evening will be the Barbeque - Fellowship Night at the covered court with Jun "Shoo Li" Urbano as Special Guest. Urbano is an Atenean, a product of Ateneo de Manila.

The last day of the homecoming, Sunday, is reserved for the batches to have their own celebrations.

This year's jubilarians are the HS and College Classes of 1957 (Golden) and 1982 (Silver). The High School Classes of both years are expected to lead the attendance for the three-day affair as in the past years and they have spearheaded the preparations for this annual event. (PR)
