THE amount of P834,398.75 was released by the Kennedy Round 2 (KR2) Project to the municipalities of Alubijid and Libertad as assistance to underprivileged rural-based organizations engaged in farming and fisheries.
Beneficiaries to KR2 Grant were the Alubijid Loguilo Irrigators Service Association in the amount of P614,140 for Organic Fertilizer and Pesticide Production to Support Organic Farming while Catalino Women's Association of Gimaylan, Libertad was granted P220,258.75 for Seaweed Noodles Processing.
The checks were turned over to the organizations on August 6, 2007 at the Misamis Oriental Capitol grounds.
To ensure the completion of the projects, Regional Director Casimira V. Balandra of the National Economic Development Authority (Neda) reminded the beneficiaries during the turn-over that upon the liquidation of 80 percent of the initial amount released (667,551), the remaining 20 percent of the project cost will be released outright to project proponents.
For his part, Misamis Oriental Gov. Oscar Moreno said the KR2 project is a joint undertaking of Neda 10 and the Provincial Government through the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), which allocated P250,000 as counterpart.
The KR2 Project aims to provide resources for productivity-enhancing activities and to achieve food sufficiency at the local level while promoting wider participation among the clientele especially in the depressed rural areas in the province, Moreno said. (PIO)
