By Lizanilla J. Amarga

THE incoming synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election on October 29 is supposed to be “non-partisan” however a local political party is now preparing for its own list of candidates in each barangays.

PaDayon Pilipino top honcho Vice Mayor Vicente Emano and former Association of Barangay Chairmen-Cagayan de Oro now Councilor Alexander Dacer said they are now preparing for the two elections.

Both Emano and Mayor Constantino Jaraula are reportedly in agreement with most of the candidates except for the barangay chairman post in Macabalan which is being eyed by Jaraula's son and chief of staff Jigs Jaraula.

Emano said in a radio interview that he already promised his support to an incumbent candidate. "Still I respect Jaraula's stance on this," he said.

Both Emano and Dacer said it would be delusional on the part of any person to think that partisan politics keep its hands off over such a very crucial political exercise.

"Candidates from the president down to the local mayors and councilors get barangay officials involved in their elections as their leaders down the ground how much more with the elections that will determine who these barangay leaders will be," Emano said in the dialect over dxIF Bombo Radyo.

In a separate interview with Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro, Dacer said leaders from different political parties in truth and in deed really dip their fingers in such an election.

"Dili kalikayan mag-apilapil man gyud na ang mga nagkalainlain nga partido labi na kung ila ra usab kining mga sakop ang nanagan (It is inevitable that leaders from different parties really get involved especially if these leaders who are candidates are also members of their parties),' he said.

He said their PaDayon Pilipino group is now coming up with its own list of candidates for each of the 80 barangays here in the city.

A lawyer who requested anonymity explained that the "non-partisan" provision on such barangay and SK elections refers only as to formalities in the filing of certificates of candidacy for barangay and SK candidates.
