Tuesday, September 11, 2007 Mayor to sack hospital chief
THE City Government-run JR Borja Memorial Hospital will have a new chief after Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Constantino Jaraula confirmed he will sack its current hospital chief, Dr. Jerry Calingasan.
In a TV interview, Jaraula said he cannot suspend Dr. Calingasan for offenses he allegedly committed since he filed for leave last week.
"But this does not mean that he won't be investigated on the charges against him," Jaraula said in reference to the charges lodged against Calingasan by nurses and hospital staff at the JR Borja Memorial Hospital.
Calingasan who attended Monday's flag-raising ceremony at the City Hall grounds reportedly refused to comment on the case.
The nurses and staff claimed that Calingasan had a hand in the alleged overpricing of medicines and other hospital supplies.
Several hospital employees also claimed to have received unfair treatment from Calingasan.
The employees reported their complaints Monday to Mayor Jaraula, who vowed to have the allegations investigated.
Overpricing allegations include documents, which purportedly show that a bottle of antiseptic alcohol costs P85--when it can only be bought for P50.
The employees said antibiotics were also reportedly overpriced and bought at suspiciously large quantities.
