Sunday, October 21, 2007 US exec reaffirms CDO's trade status
A TOP US government official reaffirmed Cagayan de Oro City's image as a leading business center and top eco-tourism destination in the country.
"I think we are seeing Cagayan de Oro emerge as a leading business hub within the Philippines. The city is clearly on the map for visitors who are well aware of this region's scenic beauty and exciting eco-tourism adventures," US Commercial Counselor Judy Reinke told participants and exhibitors at the opening of the Oro Best Expo 2007.
The Oro Best Expo 2007, a three-day business enterprise, services and trade exposition, was organized by the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Oro chamber) held at the Limketkai Atrium.
"Through this trade show and exhibition, it is even more firmly established as an economic center featuring thriving investment zones and related businesses," said Reinke, the show's keynote speaker.
With the presence of 15 American brand name firms, the lady US embassy official stressed that the event is an indication that the US government is "well aware of the positive direction your city and economy has been taking."
"The firms shown here are marquee names, and all of them want to do business here. Some of these companies are well known to you and they come from a wide variety of industry sectors," Reinke, a first-time visitor, added.
Reinke expressed optimism that the Oro Best Expo 2007 would foster business partnerships and opportunities, as well as pave the way to explore other forms of linkages such as sister-city relationships with the US cities of Norfolf in Virginia and Tallahassee in Florida.
"I foresee many new friendships and partnerships being formed over the next few days, the beginning of a new stage in a deeper and even more mutually beneficial relationship for our two countries," she concluded.
The three-day exposition and exhibit formally opened with the ceremonial cutting of ribbon led by Counselor Reinke, US Deputy Chef of Mission Paul Jones, City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula, Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno, Oro Chamber president Elpidio Paras, local business tycoons and trade officials. (Press release)
