Saturday, November 17, 2007 Trader's death still unsolved By Stephen Capillas
THE police remain in the dark over the circumstances surrounding the death of a gasoline station owner late last Thursday evening.
Carmen police identified the victim as Edmondo "Emoy" Gorgonia, reportedly a native of Talakag Bukidnon province and a resident at a subdivision in Upper Carmen.
His body was spotted at a grassy spot in Upper Carmen, along with a slightly battered green Mitsubishi Adventure vehicle.
The regional Land Transportation Office (LTO) has identified the vehicle owner, a Maranao through the vehicle's plate number GCHH-664. Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro is withholding the identity of the car owner pending his side on the matter.
Gorgonia's murder is one of two mystery murder cases that occurred in Cagayan de Oro Thursday. The second case is an alleged suicide of a ronda tanod in Zone-2 Barangay Gusa.
During the investigation, police with the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) personnel said initial results showed that Gorgonia was the victim of a vehicular accident.
Police however failed to locate the Toyota vehicle driven by the victim. The victim's cell phone was broken while his wallet was missing.
The regional office of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has yet to issue the results of an autopsy on Gorgonia's remains.
According to police the victim, a cockfighting enthusiast, came from a derby held in the city proper and was headed home prior to his demise.
The victim's friends reportedly told police that the victim was supposed to buy medicine at one of the malls in the city before the incident.
Authorities have yet to determine whether Gorgonia was a victim of a vehicular accident or carjacking. He was rushed by passersby at the JR Borja Memorial Hospital but was declared dead sometime early Friday morning.
His remains are said to be interred at the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes. Mayor Constantino Jaraula ordered the police to conduct an investigation on the incident.
