Capitol assesses damages in MisOr
By Stephen Capillas

THE Provincial Government has yet to fully assess the damages wrought by typhoons "Lando" and "Mina" in Misamis Oriental the past weeks.

In a radio interview, Provincial Board (PB) member Jimmy Caiña said the board engineering committee has joined the inspections of all affected areas along with the Provincial Engineering Office for this purpose.

The committee will evaluate the costs of damages which will then be included as part of Capitol's rehabilitation and repair budget for next year.

The PB is set to complete its annual budget for 2008 subject to the governor's approval.

Vice Governor Norris Babiera said the budget will prioritize infrastructure and education projects, including repair and rehabilitation for damaged and affected areas.

According to a report from the regional Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 10 around 597 families from four barangays of Lugait, namely Poblacion, Biga, Upper and Lower Talacogon were affected by the floods.

About 40 families from Manticao's seven barangays, Pagayawan, Panyagan, Poblacion, Cabalantian, Gayoso, Patag and Magpait suffered the same fate.

Also damaged in Manticao were a 25-meter flood control dike in Patag, a portion of the provincial road partially washed-out due to water overflow in Magpait and Pagayawan, and another portion of provincial road measuring 30 meters long in Panyagan.

Also in Misamis Oriental, landslides have resulted in some 10 meters of provincial road slip from Barangays Villa Felipa and Dimayohan, in Magsaysay town.
