'RoRo' race opens in Oro
By Stephen Capillas

THE Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) launched the inter-island race "Ready, Set, RoRo!" in Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro City in simple ceremonies Tuesday.

In an interview with local media last Monday, DBP Regional Head Sisinio Narisma said the launching is the second time for DBP to sponsor an inter-island race, with the first being done in Davao City.

"The event is part of the bank's efforts at promoting the RoRo service of the national government which facilitates the immediate delivery of food produce as well as transport to various points in the country," Narisma told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

Narisma explained the activity, an "Amazing Race" type of event, would help draw public attention on the benefits offered by the RoRo service to the country's food producers and buyers.

Event organizers assured during Monday's briefing with local media that the second edition of the "Ready, Set, RoRo!" event would be more exciting and informative as contestants cross the country's major islands from December 11-15, 2007.

The kick-off point for the 1,157 kilometer race starts in Cagayan de Oro and covers land and sea travel via RoRo through 10 more key RoRo destinations before the finish line at the Market! Market! in Taguig City.

Press statements revealed 10 teams composed of one celebrity and two non-celebrity participants will undergo numerous physical and mental challenges about the RoRo.

The organizers said the event will focus on the key cities/islands the contestants will visit and even the different specialty products of the province.

Among the celebrities who signified their participation and were spotted during last Monday's media briefing are Pinoy Big Brother's Nene Tamayo and Chix Alcala; Sex Bomb dancer Jopay Paguia, actors Ryan Eigenmann and Brad Murdoch; actors Alyssa Alano, Anna Larrucea, Paw Diaz, and Jackie Rivas; stand-up comedian Jayo; and last year's "Ready, Set, RoRo!" runner-up, AJ Dee.
