City Central chess players top City Division meet

CITY Central bets Erl Cydric Dadole and Ian Edward Amper surprised their favored rivals from West City Central and Bonbon by topping the elementary boys chess matches of the 2007 Cagayan de Oro City Division Meet.

Mentored by Candidate Master Johnnel Balquin, the little-known pair of Dadole and Amper, thus leads the winners of the City Division meet who will duel it out with the top survivors of the Cosaa and Prisaa meets in the forthcoming City Triangular Meet.

Elementary girls winners were Ma. Caissa C. Lumancas of Macasandig Elementary School and Nikka K. Ugsod of Bulua Central School.

As expected, the top-seeded Antonio Chavez Jr. of Cagayan de Oro National High School hurdled first the secondary boys elimination, followed by Francisco Porras II of Carmen National High School.

Also prevailing without much trouble in secondary girls chess were the comebacking Beverliza Bernardo and Leslie Mae Maboloc who were both representing Carmen National High School.

Dadole and Amper will face the likes of the Ibaoc brothers (Keith and Tristan) of Corpus Christi Grade School and the equally-strong Chezter Coquilla and Kenneth Norman Honculada of Xavier University Grade School in the selection process for the Northern Mindanao Regional Palaro.

Chavez and Porras, on the other hand, will be measured by the Corpus Christi tandem of Lennon Hart Salgados and Nicolo Villanueva who were consistent board 1 and 2 champions of the Cosaa and Prisaa qualifying matches.

Rufino Maestrado, tournament manager of the recently-concluded City Division Meet, said the City Triangular Meet is being tentatively scheduled to start on Jan. 25 next year.
